Alright folks. The woman who 'hit' that other woman was fined 150,000; was ordered 150 hour community service, and was ordered 2 month anger management. That is bs. The man who wanted her arrested was the mayor she was chewing out and the faker was a supporter of the mayor. Clearly this is a corrupt system going on here.
It was actually a $1500 fine, but yeah, it's still ridiculous. It's a reminder of how ludicrously broad the lowest level of "assault" can be, where tapping somebody with a finger can lead to fines and potential jail time. Personally, I think in order to get a true assault charge there should have to be an intent to actually do significant bodily harm.
Also, 2000th post! Yay!
Picky correction: unwanted touching is battery, not assault (in almost all states). I doubt "tapping someone with a finger" would ever lead to jail time (as the bar for criminal battery is much higher than civil battery). It's possible to get a civil judgment for the tapping type of battery (nominal damages)---you might get $1. I'm not familiar with that case, but I think InfoGeek may be right---it could be a case of corruption.
On a more positive note: congrats on post 2000!
