5. Robert De Niro
6. William H. Macy (thanks, Doggett, that would have been one I forgot)

Actresses in no particular order: -

1  Susan Sarandon
2  Jamie Lee Curtis
3  Jodie Foster
4  Katherine Heigl
5  Scarlett Johansson (purely for her performance in The Island)
6  Lucy Lawless (and not just for Xena)
7  Helena Bonham Carter

This is hard - I struggled just to get these. Actors will follow - I can not think of any at the moment.

We are with you on Shemp being the best stooge (by far! Has to be the most lovable hair in all of cinema).

In no particular order;

1. Bela Lugosi, absolutely.(Todd Browning's Dracula, by the way, IS grossly underrated and misunderstood these days, as is that inimitable auteur (and surrealist) director himself. Lugosi's best; Dracula, The Black Cat, Son of Frankenstein, White Zombie. Karloff was certainly a better actor, but Lugosi was a more vibrant screen personality.
2. Montgomery Clift. This is what introverted screen acting is all about. Dean and Brando may have been more flamboyant, but Clift could lift a mediocre film (like I' Confess) and make something worth studying.
3. Falconetti. One film, "The passion of Joan of Arc' , but the greatest acting caught on celluloid. That, not Citizen Kane, is the greatest film of all time.
4. Charles Chaplin. Speaking of great acting. Chaplin does more in the last , wordless minute of 'City Lights' than most actors can do with  ten pages of dialogue. Chaplin could be saccharine and Keaton was more innovative, but Buster could not ever grab us and touch us the way Chaplin did.
5. Peter Lorre. Inimitable screen presence. He was thoroughly wasted by Hollywood and his later years were worse, but M, Mad Love, Face behind the Mask, Maltese Falcon, Casablanca, etc show him at the height of his powers. he never failed to light up the screen.
6.Lon Chaney, sr. 'The Unknown' is his master work and Burt Lancaster claimed he studied that performance repeatedly. This, with 'West to Zanzibar', 'Hunchback of Notre Dame', "Phantom of the Opera', are required viewing for anyone evne remotely interested ins creen acting.
7. Burt Lancaster. His later years redefined the meaning of 'golden'. 'The Swimmer', 'The Leopard' 'Atlantic City', show an actor who truly fell in love with his craft and was not afraid to take risks at an age when most actors get comfortable and soak up the remaining years on auto pilot.
8.Claude Rains. Whether carrying a whole movie without even being seen, or playing second fiddle to the likes of Bette Davis and Errol Flynn, Rains always commanded attention with probably the most beautiful voice in all of cinema.
9. James Mason. Another beautifully voiced character actor who could play slimy with the most subtle ease.
10. Alec Guinness. He made so many great films, one can see why he complained so much about the possibility of being remembered most for Star Wars. 'The Horse's Mouth, 'Kind Hearts and Coronets', 'LadyKillers', 'Man in the White Suit', 'Captain's Paradise', 'Bridge on the River Kwai', are just a random few of a huge list.

ps: Three grossly underrated actors; Ann Dvorak whose career was side railed because she was tried to be picky about scripts and refused to sleep her way to the top. 'Three on a match' is a pre-code gem.  Ernest Thesiger; because he did so much with a simple line like 'have a potato'. Peter O'Toole. Ok, he's celebrated but the Academy Awards should be be  sent a million chastising letters for denying him all these years 9as they should be in their treatment of Orson Welles, Chaplin, Clift and many others. Alos, two favorite ham actors goes to Shatner and Montalban for 'The Wrath of Khan' which actually gets better with the passing years 9the only Trek movie to do so).
I dunno if this has been done yet...but it hasn't in a while...and there's lotsa new folks on board...sOOOOOOOooooo!

Hmm this is pretty tough but these are names that get me watching films:

Actors:

1) Charlton Heston. Just love him in almost everything he's appeared in but best of all in his late 60s, early 70s end of the world roles.

2) Vincent Price. A master. His Poe movies helped get me interested in horror.

3) Boris Karloff. The monster. He was so good in that role.

4) Bela Lugosi. The perhaps even more menacing monster. He seemed even more diabolical.

5) James Stewart. Was there ever a more likable screwball?

6) Peter Cushing. Added class to horror.

7) Lon Chaney Sr.. His Phantom and Hunchback are unforgettable. So good in so many other roles too.

8) Humphrey Bogart. Bogie was the best lead ever IMO.

9) Bruce Lee. Started my lifelong love of Kung Fu movies. Was an absolute hero to me and my friends as kids.

10) Christopher Lee. Pretty much a given for me considering how much I enjoy Cushing's work.

Honorable Mentions: Bruce Willis, Harrison Ford, Kenneth Tobey, James Dean, James Cagney, Marlon Brando, Brian Donlevy, Michael Rennie, Claude Rains, John Carradine, Alec Guiness, Lon Chaney Jr., Jackie Chan, Charles Bronson, Clint Eastwood, Groucho Marx, Harpo Marx, Kirk Douglas, Brad Pitt, Rutger Hauer, Johnny Depp,Tyrone Power, William Powell, Don Knotts, Dana Andrews, Ray Milland, George Hamilton, Richard Denning, Whit Bissell, John Agar, Lew Ayres, Oliver Reed, William Marshall, Michael Gough, Andrew Keir, Gareth Hunt, Raymond Burr, Rod Steiger, Orson Welles, Roddy McDowall, Maurice Evans, James Whitmore, Anthony Zerbe, Edward G. Robinson, Chuck Connors, Joseph Cotton

Actresses

1) Faith Domergue: the female scientist who was always easy on the eyes yet still believable in her given role. It Came From Beneath the Sea. This Island Earth.

2) Jenny Agutter: very easy on the eyes and very likable in both Logan's Run and An American Werewolf in London.

3) Pam Grier: she kicks butt. She is the female who first comes to mind when I think of the action/blaxploitation genre featuring female kick-butt leads.

4) Raquel Welch: One Million Years B.C., Fantastic Voyage...hmm hmm hmm.

5) Jennifer Connelly: Terrific actress in numerous films and just very likable lead actress more often than not. Labyrinth. Dark City. Hulk. Requeim for a Dream.

6) Sigourney Weaver: Another kick butt heroine. Of course there's the Alien films but also Ghostbusters. Truth be told, I've liked her in other roles too.

7) Ingrid Pitt: Terrific vampiress in Hammer films, beautiful threat in others.

8) Hazel Court: great on screen with the likes of Price, Karloff and Nicholson.

9) Audrey Hepburn: how could you not enjoy her work?

10) Caroline Munro: So beautiful in so many roles. Most memorable for Starcrash, Captain Kronos, Golden Voyage of Sinbad, At the Earth's Core and the Dr. Phibes films.

Honorable Mentions: Diana Rigg, Gillian Anderson, Uma Thurman, Sharon Stone, Honor Blackman, Linda Thorson, Martine Beswick, Joanna Lumley, Fay Wray, Christina Ricci, Charlize Theron, Milla Jovovich, Beverly Garland, Gloria Talbott, Lauren Bacall, Janet Leigh, Vivian Leigh, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ornella Muti, Ursula Andress, Famke Janssen, Jane Fonda, Madeleine Stowe, Linda Harrison, Dana Delaney, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Kirstie Alley, Drew Barrymore, Natascha McElhone, Brigitte Helm, Daryl Hannah, Sean Young, Linda Hamilton, Michelle Pfieffer, Nicole Kidman (not so much nowadays though), Kim Hunter, Rosalind Cash, Leigh Taylor-Young
