Only my head is tiny...

This film version of George Orwell's classic novel is one of the finer adaptations I've seen recently.  John Hurt really holds things together with his performance as Winston Smith, and Richard Burton is fabulous in what turned out to be his last role.  The music is also well done, creating a national Anthem for Oceania that is both beautiful, and disturbing.

Anyone who hasn't seen this yet, should check it out, but steer clear of the version with the Eurythmics soundtrack.

I second that.  Very worthwhile and memorable, though depressing (I suspect an uplifting dystopian movie wouldn't make sense).  Hurt was great, as always (I need to add him to my top 10 actors list--but who to bump?)

I didn't know there were different soundtracks to the film.  I can't say whether I heard the Eurythmics or non-Eurythmics version.  I don't remember hearing Annie Lennox, though.

I saw a trailer for the film on Youtube that had the Eurythmics soundtrack, and it just didn't fit at all.  I didn't know it existed either, but it could have been restricted to the UK release now that I think about it.

I saw this at the theater 25 years a go.Before the film even began, the Eurythmics song 1984(sex crime)played. So everyone just sat there in silence, staring at a blank screen and wondering why music was playing.

1984 is required viewing, I saw it when it first came out. Scary how true it is becoming.
