I AM THE BAD PHOTOSHOP EFFECT!

« on: March 30, 2009, 02:35:24 PM »

This is not one of the Top 100 lists, because it's not really opinion based.  But I am curious about how many movies have the hero dying at the end of them. The hero or at least main character doesn't have to lose per say, just one where they die.
Some of the ones Im thinking of
Armagedden Bruce Willis dies
Rommel (or whatever his name was) from SideHackers
Old Yeller from Old Yeller
The little girl from Pan Labyrinth
Denzeil Washington from Fallen

Can anyone think of more?

ALIEN 3
TERMINATOR 2

Lots of the good ol' ganster films, often going out with a great line, including:
LITTLE CAESAR (1931) Edward G. Robinson: "Mother of mercy! Is this the end of Rico?"
THE PUBLIC ENEMY (1931) James Cagney: "I ain't so tough!"
WHITE HEAT (1949) Cagney again:  "Top o' the world, ma!"

And there's CITIZEN KANE, where the main character dies in the first scene.
Orson Welles: "Rosebud!"   Smile

I wouldn't say he's a hero, though.  He's pretty much a bastard.

How did we get this far without mentioning "They Live"?

Rowdy Roddy Piper dies seconds after revealing the aliens' presence on Earth.

Al Pacino in "Scarface".

Also, there's Tim Robbins in "Jacob's Ladder" and Treat Williams & Joe Piscopo in "Dead Heat" (although, both are technically undead at the end).  TeddyR

Don't forget the most infamous one of all.......Duane Jones in NOTLD.

WingedSerpent did qualify "or at least main character"...

Once again, I failed to read carefully before replying.  This is another reason why I'll never amount to anything.   Bluesad

Raff, as a fellow Polonia fan you just reminded me of all the characters out of THE BLOOD RED PLANET, who die (The heroes, heroically ^_^ ).

And since I called you Raff, I was reminded of THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW where, not the "main" characters per se, but the most memorable ones die.

Finally, since I saw the several mentions of immoral gangsters dying, I'll mention that the more moral hero Carlito Brigante dies at the end of Carlito's Way :(
