Star Trek gets my vote although I do enjoy both. Star Trek strikes me as being more genuine science fiction styles storytelling whereas Star Wars is much more in the realm of fantasy, magic and swashbuckling. That said, I greatly prefer the original Star Trek series and the original theatrical Star Wars Trilogy because indeed both were much more fun than the newer versions.

Somehow I knew you were going to say that, but then again, what Jem'Hadar would not?  TeddyR Wink

For me, I love both. I was 8 when Star Wars came out and it changed my life forever. I also remember watching Star Trek reruns in the 70's, so I loved that one as well. I am one of the few (maybe the only one) that enjoys every incarnation of either franchise...with the exception being that horrid SW holiday special.

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

Is this only in terms of the films? I think Star Wars wins out in other areas like games, comics and toys. Really it's like choosing between two different types of bacon... and well bacon is all good.  TeddyR

I Liked Both STAR WARS And STAR TREK

Until Both Were Ruined!

I couldn't agree more. I'm not sure what happened but I think part of the reason they both went downhill is that the owners weren't as interested in fun/interesting/daring storytelling as they were in protecting their franchises. "They were more product than story now" to lamely paraphrase an old Jedi.

I picked Trek in the end because I really like the idea of a New Age of Exploration for humanity. The idea of placing the acquisition of knowledge over the acquisition of material gain as a way of saving humanity from itself (thanks vulcans & Rodenberry!) is appealing as well.
Plus, I'll never forgive Lucas for cutting  Han Solo's balls off like he did in ROTJ.   Hatred

Can we all just get along and agree that GALAXY QUEST is by far the best Star Trek movie?

I like them both, although I do lean more toward Star Wars, especially after the Next Generation, DS9 and Voyager years. The original Trek was a fun show. I liked most of the movies with the original cast. But the franchise really started to take itself too seriously. It got all PC for a while, and the later series started getting too much of the soap opera crap and frankly, I just lost interest. Star Wars, on the other hand, was all about fun and adventure, and for those of us who didn't bother with any of the books or other non-movie Star Wars material, it was kind of frozen in time. The prequels fixed that, for sure. Still, for all their faults, I thought they were all right.

Hard to say, between original Trek and original Star Wars, it's almost too close to call. I like them both. Star Trek, as a whole, has been butchered more, but perhaps only because there's been more of it.

I think Star Trek at times has it's moments, fans certainly get more of it than Star Wars, what with the amount of series there has been, but I prefer the original Star Wars trilogy. Star Trek bores me quite a bit. Seems mostly alot of fake techinal jargon and maybe some angry hologram or alien pops up, only to be talked into submission or karate chopped by a jobber in a jumpsuit.
