Just popped over to jumptheshark.com for the first time in a while, and....
Here, look for yourself.
http://www.jumptheshark.comApparently, TV Guide bought the site and launched their redesign in February. They paid a buttload of money to get their mitts on the URLs and killed the site. In its place is a really crappy entertainment blog that still uses a few of the JTS themes in the lamest manner possible. It's almost like a taunt to the people who used to enjoy the site. Is it just me, or is there something really perverse about buying a site that empowered viewers and poked fun at the entertainment industry, then filling it with mindless hype for some of the crappiest shows on TV?
Anyway, it was inevitable that someone would try to rebuild elsewhere, and
http://www.bonethefish.com seems to be the best bet. I've been poking around there, voting, adding comments, etc. Nothing like callous corporate stupidity to put one in a helpful mood. Too bad "boned the fish" doesn't have quite the same ring as "jumped the shark" but TV Guide now owns that particular colloquialism. Sick.
