Kind of a tough one here.  On the one hand, I'm sure this is quite venerated by many, on the other hand I didn't like it THAT much thuogh I'll admit it was good.  Considering there were thuosands of horror movies made in the early 80's, it is remarkable on some level that they made on that actually has a plot that makes sense, a decent budget and no blatantly wrongheadeded or time filling garbage.  Maybe I was just in a bad mood but there was an awful lot of getting to know the doomed people a la disaster movies for my taste.  At any rate, if you are in the mood for an early 80's horror movie you cuold certainly do far worse than "the Burning".  extras include a very interesting feature with special effects guy Tom Savigni and commentary by the director which is much less interesting.

Didn't really care for that one at all.  The charactrs were a bunch of jerks and the action sequences had some comical miscues.  For instance, some kids on a raft paddle up to another raft, then all of a sudden the killer is right on their raft!  How the hell did he get there?  LOL.

Did anyone else feel a little sorry for Cropsy?  If the same thing happened to me, I'd probably feel like carving up some teenagers, too.

I thought this film was alright, not fantastic, though I really struggle with anything set on campsites (Friday 13th). I have the un-cut verison and this film would be really bare without them. Yes, there is too much build-up and focus on the kids, but boy is it worth it for that raft scene. I also liked the way Cropsy got burned in a crap prank with a wormy skull as you wouldn't see that nowadays. I think it's worth a watch and it does offer something a bit different (burnt killer with hedge-trimmers), plus Rick Wakeman's score is quite eerie.  Smile

someone on netflix called it "Meatballs meets Friday the 13th"  I'd agree but make it "meatballs without Bll Murray.."

That raft scene was a little silly but also kind of intense. If Cropsy could do all that with a pair of hedge clippers, then he deserves a set of adamantium claws and a gov't contract.

The Burning is one of the few slasher movies I have seen where I feel sorry for the killer, which doesn't happen that often.

I love 80s slashers, but this one didn't do too much for me for some reason. I thought it was a bit over hyped, which set my expectations high. The infamous raft scene was cool, though.
