Only my head is tiny...

« on: May 03, 2009, 05:41:07 AM »

I happen to have this very hard to find TV movie on VHS, which my late father recorded back in 1982.  It's an adaptation of Ray Bradbury's "I Sing The Body Electric", a story about a robotic, ageless Grandmother that is purchased for a devastated, Motherless home.

This movie comes off as a little strange at first, but once you really get into it, you discover its surprising core.  It's really an interesting, and ultimately very touching film.  I actually still got misty-eyed by the end, even years later after my first viewing.

Maureen Stapleton did a superb job as the titular robot, displaying a positive aspect of robotics rarely seen in movies these days.  We even get to see a young Robert McNaughton, who played the older brother in ET, as the eldest brother of the family.  Plus, we're even treated to the charming Paul Benedict for a few scenes, as the robot's inventor.

If you can find this movie anywhere, I highly suggest checking it out.  (I think someone posted it on Youtube, as a matter of fact.)
