We're all just victims of circumstance

« on: July 05, 2009, 12:10:20 PM »

Avery Ludlow (Brian Cox)goes out fishing one day with his old dog Red. Red is a special dog because he was a present to Avery on his 50th birthday from his long deceased wife.

Avery and Red are harrassed and robbed at gunpoint by three teenaged boys with a shotgun. The leader of the group shoots Red because Avery wasn't carrying enough money on him.

Avery tracks down the boys by finding out where the shot gun was purchased.

Two of the boys are the sons of a wealthy local business man (Tom Sizemore).  Of course the boys deny everything and the only law that applies to the killing of Red is a misdemeanor that only calls for a small fine.

Avery continues to look for ways to make the boys admit what they did and to get justice for Red.

He becomes obsessed and everything he tries fails.

He is befriended by a local female tv news reporter who ends up getting transferred after her story appears.

After a long conversation one night Avery tells her about a horrible, dark tragedy in his life that took his family. Avery is after more than justice for Red.

Of course, Avery's quest ends in a violent confrontation after the store he owns is burned to the ground.

Brian Cox does a wonderful job as Avery. Sizemore looks like they pulled him out of rehab to play his part.

This is another tale of the little guy being denied justice because of the influence of wealth, but it's also the story of lonely man with a tragic past trying to make the world make sense.

It's definitely worth a watch.

I just bought this a few weeks ago and I loved it. I was a little torn at the end though and the story about his boys tore me up. But you are right its definitely worth watching.

Loved it as well, Cox was wonderful, and it was funny to see Sizemore losing it a bit more evereytime he met him. I found quite ironic that, despite being right, it was Cox who was arguably more nuts trhis time. Particularly, that stuff about digging up Red's body and presenting it to Sizemore was quite f**ked up.

Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.
