I thought this was going to be James Bond-ey but it really isn't.  If you are under 80 years old the vibe is likely to be a little strange and kind of ....geriatric.  The music is by Henry Mancini and the Pink Panthers sort of Swank jazz is definately the order of the day.   The lead guy is alot like Cary grant.  This is post noir and pre woodstock so it's sort of boy I am running out of words  gauzy?   He sort of jazzes around solving crimes, getting beat up by gangsters who seem to virtually run the oddly british looking town he lives in and picking up hot girls.  beatniks appear often.  The stories themselves are good, each episode a little over 20 minutes.  Definately worth a look.  "Chinese hangman" was my favorite episode on the vol 1 disk 1

Ozzymandias speaks: Peter Gunn was the first of the classy dicks. Most before him were guys in techcoats, beat up hats sluging whisky from the bottle.

Peter's girlfriend was hot, he hung out at a jazz club rather than a low rent bar and he dressed good. He kind was the link between Mike Hammer and James Bond.

I like his police contact Jacobi. He is always peeved when Peter got involved in a case. The actor that played Jacobi was later the voice of Charlie the Tuna in the Starkist ads.

Doing research for my novel, that takes place in the 50s, I've become a big fan of the 30 minute action shows.

Ozzymandias has spoken!!!
