I don't drink but it was interesting to hear that the famous Budweiser beer is now available here, but unfortunately not those funny "Whazzzzzzup?" adverts.

Instead of that, we have the "Howwwwwzit?" ads ~ to explain, the word "Howzit?" [How's it?] is a familiar SA greeting meaning literally "How are you?"

Budweiser is nothing special.  I like some of the other variations of Budweiser like Bud ice.  For me to put it bluntly, if nothing else is available I'll have a Budweiser but it's not something that I am crazy for.

All my uncles are crazy in love with Budweiser!  I prefer the Budweiser frog commercials.

That reminds me of my friend Gerald (he's Belgian) telling me never to drink Heineken as it was 46% horse pee.  Buggedout  Buggedout He said all I had to do was look on the label and there is something to do with a horse in the ingredients ~ the "horse" was actually the word hors and then concours, meaning "out of competition".

Don't believe what they say Trevor, I've drank thousands of cans of Budweiser and I can assure you, it gets the job done  TeddyR

Yeah, but take it from a college student theres cheaper beers that get the job done just as quick. Drink TeddyR

That said I'm not a huge fan of Budwieser just because of the amount of adjuncts the throw into the brew (don't get me wrong I will gladly drink it if offered). The corn and rice they throw into it helps stablize the flavor in small doses, but to much it starts to affect the taste and smell.

The problem with Budweiser (and other American mega-lagers) is that they supplement their barley malt with corn and rice.  This is much cheaper to produce, giving them extra money to spend on Superbowl commercials, but it results in a very low-alcohol beer that doesn't have much flavor.  Most people from around the world don't recognize it as tasting much like beer.  But, on the positive side, I have heard some praise it because it's light and "drinkable" as opposed to the heavier, more powerful European beers.

I'll add that it may not really be the Budweiser we drink in America.  I remember that Carlsberg licensed the Budweiser name in Europe, and they brewed a standard beer with no corn or rice in it.  So the export Budweiser could be different than what we get in the States.

Budweiser is decent as far as American beers go.  It's a good chug-a-lug beer on a hot day when you are really thirsty.  But after 3 trips to Belgium, I can tell you there is no American beer (or Canadian beer for that matter) that comes close to some of the stuff you can get in Belgium.  WESTMALLE TRIPPEL is my favorite.  But it's too full-bodied and flavorful to be a good chugging beer.  It's more of a "relax and enjoy the experience" beer.

A I agree Burgo, the belgians know some beer.  Once I stopped drinking to get drunk and started drinking for flavor, the cheap stuff went out the window.  No more $4 cases for Shaeffer for me.

Belgian beers are tops.  My favorite is Duvel.  But there are LOTS of American beers that outshine Bud.  Try anything from Rogue breweries, for example.
