from the director of "the Cell" . This would probably be awesome if you were in college and saw this at your local fine arts museum.  You'd be like "whooah".   big budget surrealismo isn't really my cup of tea but this was a little easier to take than some others , mainly because it wasn't trying to be "weird" every second and had some actual emotion and humor / humanity here and there.   It reminded me of the opera.  I liked the cute little girl main character but boy do they lay on the cute.  Doesn't this kid ever fart or break something or p**s you off?  4 stars more out of respect than enjoyment

I have a soft spot for the Cell, since I really enjoyed the graphics and the violent aspects of the surreal imagination: there's some cool concepts there.

Looks like one to watch for me!

I saw it in the theater, and liked it very much it. It had a decidedly Baron Munchausen flavor to it with the outlandish story aspect. A good blend of imagination with some real world heaviness.

The Cell was visually excellent, and I wish they'd had the budget to realize all the things the director wanted to, but the story wasn't something that really engaged me.

I saw this the other night. From a certain perspective, I can see why some people would have a problem with this. The drama is laid on a little thick with not a whole lot of plot to back it up. On the other hand, I couldnt help being blown away by it, mostly due to how it was made. All those locations, which most people would assume were done on a blue screen set, were real. It was filmed in 28 different countries, in actual historic places and buildings, and if we can take the director's word for it, there was no cgi used whatsoever. In addition, most if not all of the dialogue was adlibbed (the girl almost wasnt acting at all, the camera was hidden for much of the time to ensure her reactions were genuine. In the scene where Roy freaks out - the second time the girl p**ses herself - she is genuinely afraid, as she had no idea it would happen, and had to be coaxed back to the set). This film is more an experiment than anything, and yes, would probably be more appreciated by film students than anyone else. However, it is totally worth checking out.
