A lot of them think I am... and not in a good "ha, he's so crazy" type way.

I guess the prob is I'm tall (six foot six) so that in an of itself can intimidate people (except, apparently, the people I WANT to intimidate), and plus I never really picked up the whole "how to interact with people" skills that most seem to pick up naturally as they grow up.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm not shy (sometimes I'm a bit too outgoing in fact) but often I have trouble beyond the whole, "Hey, how you doing?" opening lines of dialogue mush.

Plus, few tend to "get" my sense of humor, and don't seem to realize when I'm just joking around.  (I learned over the years it's best NOT to joke about drugs, having a criminal record, testing out "new recipes for molotovs", or getting fired from a daycare because of the "Fun With Napalm" course you tried to teach unless it's with someone who knows you pretty well.)

I guess problem is though I don't really fit in well with most groups.  As I often say, I'm too weird for the straights, but too straight for the weirds.  I mean, for example, I go to a Gaming store and find myself bored cause I want to talk about something OTHER than the latest edition of WoW.

So, dunno.. was curious about you guys.  Do you think you, in general, tend interact okay with "normal" people, or are you a bit on the outside yourself?

Since Kindergarden.

I would buy Famous Monsters and Fangoria as a child and watch the latest horror movies at the Theater with my Mother. My friends read kiddie comics and watched Disney instead. When I got older they made fun of my taste in music. I was into R&B/Soul, they were into Metal & Rock.
Nothing has changed since I'm all grown up. I still collect and watch horror and still listen to Old School R&B. Other than that I think I get along pretty well with people, even though I know they think I'm weird. Hell, they even told me straight up but I don't care. Being "different" got me lots of dates when I was in school. Chicks digged that  TeddyR

Yes, yes, yes.  Smile

My bosses think that I'm a freak of nature with my film knowledge.
My clients think I'm the greatest thing since sliced bread.
People a lot younger than me (teenagers and younger) think I'm weird but cool.

I can handle that.  Smile

I don't know if they think I'm weird, but I'm sure I've surprised many people with my sense of humor which often involves me poking fun at sex, death, disease, violence, and racial issues.  I just blurt out politically incorrect comments whenever I think they might get a laugh.

I suspected it, but I haven't heard anyone say it outloud to me or to someone else.  They're just jealous that I have a better compacticy for movie, anime, and video game trivia.

yes, but thats ok. I can only be who i am and people will like me or they wont. The people that "get me" like my weirdness, the ones that don't are people i don't really like anyway.   TeddyR

I really am weird.  In a very fundamental way, I'm different.

Most of my interaction with people is an imitation of other social interaction I've observed.  The "rules" are not something I've ever been able to learn, but through a lifetime of trial-and-error I've finally arrived at a close enough approximation of "normal" behavior that I get by.

yes,
but I'm in the sciences so I'm suppose aloud to be.

In terms of movies it once really once came to the forefront when me and my friends sat down to watch some MST3000 (can't remember the movie, but it had Tor Johnson in it) and my friends were taken back that I was getting frustrated with the interruptions because I was actually enjoying the movie - well enjoying it to a degree.
