Here is a film within a film.  In the Jim Jarmusch film “Stranger Than Paradise,” two of the primary characters are watching tv.  You can’t see what they’re watching, as the screen is facing away.  However, you can clearly hear the film, and it sounds like an old sci-fi B-movie.  There is a line spoken, and I’m possibly paraphrasing here, “Try your blaster, commander.”

It sounded like the kind of sci-fi B-movie that would have come out in the 50’s or 60’s, but I could be wrong.  I thought it was interesting that it used the word “blaster” instead of “laser” or “ray gun” or something else prevalent in those days.  I wonder if, whatever the film was, it influenced George Lucas’ use of the word “blaster” in the Star Wars franchise.

Anyway, I’m looking for a title.

Nevermind.  I solve my own post.  It was Forbidden Planet, a film I have sadly never watched.  I've always heard of it.  My understanding is that it was actually more of a mainstream film than a B-movie.  I'll have to watch that very soon.

both are great movies! forbidden planet is considered a classic in its timeframe, rather than a b-movie,although for many people who saw it at the drivein, it's always gonna be a'B'   Wink
