Watched The Addams Family today.  It's still pretty good, and I hadn't seen it in ages, but I have to admit it isn't quite as good as I remember.  Still, the ensemble cast is FLAWLESS.

7/10.

Feast (2005) - Gruesome monsters attack the patrons of a bar.  Despite their efforts to blockade the windows and doors, their numbers still keep dwindling with great rapidity.  I said a while back that there were only about 4 horror/comedies that I liked (truthfully I guess it's closer to 6 or 7), well, add another one to the list!  This movie actually made me laugh - not chuckle or smirk, but downright laugh.  How can you not like something that introduces one of the characters as "Name:  Granny.  Fun Fact:  Has blown Mick Jagger...recently.  Life expectancy:  May already be dead."   BounceGiggle  The characters are very colorful and likable, but no matter how many witty remarks they make, it doesn't change the fact that they're in a truly life-and-death situation against some very brutal and bloodthirsty creatures, so the horror aspect is very much alive and well despite the humor.  4.75/5.

10.28. Filmcount: 59

The Sentinel (1977)

Brownstone Terror: Young Model encounters strange neighbors and creepy noise from the apartment above. When she sees her undead father all hell breaks loose. "What do you do for a living? - We fondle each other."
October/Halloween score: 4.5/5 for including coffee table orgasm, b&w nightmares, guinea pig on naked flesh.

Demon Seed (1977)

High-Tech Terror: Young woman is held captive in her own house by super-intelligent computer who wants to be a daddy. Thrilling sci-fi that will and still delivers.
October/Halloween score: 4.5/5 for including artificial intergalactic intercourse, cube-decap, mentally disturbed having fit.

I watched House on Sorority Row via Netflix on Demand.  I thought this started out quite well, and is interesting as being the film I'd say the "victims" most deserve to get killed off in in any slasher film I can remember.  But there's no real acceleration or increase in pacing towards the end, and then it's kind of over quick.  Weak ending, basically.  6/10.

Feeding Grounds (2006) - A group of extremely unlikable characters head out to the desert for a weekend of arguing, fighting, and a whole lot of standing around doing nothing.  Eventually some mysterious creature shoots them with little darts, causing them to argue and fight even more obnoxiously, and stand around doing nothing a whole lot while acting really wasted.  It also makes them extremely ill, and they all barf up green goop.  That's pretty much the movie.  We never see the monster, just a quick glimpse of its hand a couple times.  We get no explanation of anything.  By the end the kills consist of showing a sick guy, then the camera moves to the girl next to him, then back to the guy - oh, he's not there any more.  Then some blasting loud music starts playing and the credits roll.  And the entire freakin' movie is out of focus.  This was made in 2006;  I thought we'd moved beyond using hand cranked cameras.  I guess the theme music was good, it set a spooky mood.  And we get to hear lots and lots of it as our sick characters stumble around and do nothing.  1.5/5.

I didn't even realize it was by Brain Damage, but I certainly noticed some similarities while watching it.  Oh man, that explains a whole lot  BounceGiggle

10.29. Filmcount: 61

Humanoids from the Deep (1980)

Creatures from the ocean terrorize small coastal town and rape women. Solid monster flick that looks great on Blu-ray.
October/Halloween score: 4/5 for including annual salmon festival brawl, explosions galore, misty setting, face ripping, squirting blood, thick hairdo's.

The Island (1980)

Father and son on vacation are kidnapped and held captive on island by Pirates. Not really "Horror" but I totally dig the slasher-like opening und gruesome kills. The German DVD presents the film with a great transfer.
October/Halloween score: 4/5 for including jellyfish attack, head split with axe, slashed throats, bad dental hygiene.

House of the Dead 2 (2005) - Zombies take over a college campus, and the military is called in, along with a couple of zombie hunting specialists.  They need to find the original zombie, patient zero, and get a blood sample in order to create a vaccine.  This is a favorite of mine, a fun throwback to the '80s with cheese galore and some really likable characters, especially Emmanuelle Vaugier and Ed Quinn in the lead roles.  The plot moves along well, there's plenty of gut munching gore, Sticky Fingaz gets his entire head blown off (early in the movie, thankfully), ah heck - you name it, it's got it  TeddyR  4.5/5.

Predators (2010)

Eight people find themselves trapped on a planet hunted by intergalactic headhunters. I quite enjoyed this. Maybe slow at times but the rest was good times. Regarding the Blu-ray, I was expecting 3-D like jungle greens but didn't get any. Ah well.
October/Halloween score: 4/5 for including Laurence Fishburne, Predator drool, Predator dogs, flying Predator gadgets, spine-rip, decapitation, sword fight.

The Thing Below (2004) - a CGI monster is loose on an offshore oil rig (which is actually a top secret government research lab).  So a group of...I dunno what these people are.  The crew of a tugboat apparently?  Are sent in to search for survivors.  They turn into commandos once they arrive at the oil rig.  The monster can cause them to have hallucinations, so when they're distracted with that, it impales them with its CGI tentacles.  This was sooooo predictable - we're told that one woman lost her husband and son in a train wreck.  Wonder what her hallucination will be?  Another guy dresses like Roy Rodgers, another has pictures of a porn actress all over his room.  Ah, the suspense.  I guess the characters were moderately well done.  The CGI was just comically unbelievable.  I made it to the end though   TeddyR  2.5/5.

Blades (1989) - a parody of Jaws which takes place on a golf course.  A rogue lawn mower is on the loose at the local country club;  of course they can't shut the place down because the big tournament is taking place that weekend.  The two golf pro's investigate.  The lead guy is the most dull and uncharismatic character I can ever remember seeing in any movie.  Oh man this was boring and not funny.  Typical Troma rubbish.  At least the people in the movie took everything seriously and didn't act like they were in a comedy.  1.5/5.
