It came on what eventually was to become the sci fi channel years later...The movie starts out in sepia tone I distinctly remember seeing a neighborhood with cars lined up on the curbs, and shots sweeping from the ground level to up above the homes.  KInd of like red dawn meets dawn of the dead in sepia tone...a guy wakes up and noone else is around.

I don't remember much more than that.  In fact it may not have been a zombie movie at all, but I think I remember zombies in it.  I rememebr the guy feeling like there was just no hope of finding anyone, or anyway out.  It had a name like day of the dead or soemthing short and to the point i think.  I was probably 10-13 years old when I watched it likely it aired around 1992 or so, but seemed shot in late 80's like 89-91 or so.

AS stupid as this sounds, my brother and I were home alone that night watching the movie and it felt like we were living in the movie, like our parents would never come home, we were tired, but wouldn't let ourselves fall asleep so we wouldn't have to face waking up to an empty street, house, neighborhood, world...

I remember the movie being a bit out of the oprdinary, but certainly not too over the top like most B-Movies of the era. It likely wasnt a "B-movie", but a legitimate attempt at making an end of days horror film in the late 80's early 90's.  Sepia tone shots seem to be the only thing I really remember, an amber lense covering the world, lots of crane and swooping shots to show the dead quiet neighborhoods.

Thanks in advance!!

It would be really cool if anyone has any ideas, I have scoured netflix and google searches to find the movie with no luck at all.

The movie you described sounds like The Quiet Earth.

The only other movie I can think of that's similar to what you described is Night of the Comet.  It did have zombies in it and there were a lot of orangish/sepia colors.

I'd say night of the comet fits best.  Smile
