In South Africa, it was almost certainly
King Solomon's Mines (1918) followed by
Allan Quatermaine (1919).
The first is still in existence and the second is unfortunately lost.
Wow. Didn't know there was such an early version of King Solomon's Mines. Worth checking out?
At the National Film Archives, we have ten reels of mostly unedited footage of that film but there are plans to have it restored soon. As it is, it's a little confusing to watch ~ some of the scenes are edited into the film upside down.
