Monster movie with beast that looks like Venom (Spider-Man foe)

I recall watching this once and had positive things to say.

*spoilers*

After a tough cop loses his partner and is nearly killed by a creature he has an odd connection with it where he can detect where it is. He's paranoid, eats lots of chocolate and drinks lots of coffee to keep him calm. Gets partnered up with a younger annoying guy, eventually they team up and kill the monster, in an awesome over-kill scene. What was this, its driving me crazy that I can't figure it out.

Sounds exactly like Split Second starring Rutger Hauer.

Pretty cool movie, if I recall correctly (and there's a very good chance I don't).

I still like the tagline, "They're going to need bigger guns."

Definitely Split Second. Love that movie.
