A good bad movie is like popcorn for the soul!

« on: October 09, 2009, 11:27:53 PM »

This movie must have been in production for a long, long time, because I know I saw the first preview for it well over a year ago.  It finally came out on video this week and I watched it tonight.
Basically, the movie is a series of loosely connected vignettes strung together with a few shared characters.  Lots of cliches and "jump" scares, and a few genuinely creepy moments.  The lovely and luscious Joanna Paquin (from HBO's TRUE BLOOD) does a turn as a . . . very non-typical virgin trying to have her first experience (although not the kind you'd think), and the sequence at the old rock quarry is probably the best in the whole film.
In short, if you want a good spooky little movie that's not as intense as THE HILLS RUN RED or Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN, this is a good way to spend an hour and a half.  Let me know what you think.

Just Another Pretty Face

I've watched it twice now, and I think it is a pretty solid effort. Of course it has its roots in Tales From The Crypt and Creepshow, but all the stories are tied together (albeit peripherally) very well. The effects were well done, with minimal CGI which was a breath of fresh air. At times the atmosphere especially the rock quarry sequence reminded me of the original Pumpkinhead film, it had a very creepy vibe to it. Its a shame the studio sat on this for so long, and did not give it a theatrical release (I too recall seeing a trailer for it at the theater over a year ago) yet tons of money keeps getting poured into stuff like Saw.

This is a good Halloween themed movie, and while it has some flaws (most characters don't get a whole lot of development) I would recommend it over a lot of other newer horror films. Good pick indiana.
