I just saw the theatrical trailer for it and it looks refreshingly stupid, in a pure way.  It didn't seem overly self-aware and had some cool visuals.

I can't wait!

I agree, Jason has always been my favorite of the slashers and I am really looking forward to this new movie.

The writer Todd Farmer is a a friend of mine, and trust me, this film had a helluva time getting released (let alone the problems of filming it-- mostly with producer Sean C. Cunningham). The film was finished in 2000, but New Line Cinema has sat on it until April. When I first heard the concept "Jason in space," I thought it was ridiculous, but Todd has created what I feel will be the best Friday since my personal favorite, "Part VI: Jason Lives".

There is a review up already at   teleport-city.com.

Not a shining review, but he admits he's not a slasher fan in the first place.

When I saw the ad in front of Blade 2 everyone in the audience was laughing hysterically. Looks like the feel-good comedy of the spring.

Trying to figure out where to find one of these theatres full of hysterically laughing people. Aside from comedies, I've never seen one. At best, on rare occasions, I've seen maybe one or two people cackling with irritating fake laughter at things that don't even seem unintentionally funny. Trying to show everyone how clever they are, I suppose.

Anyway, Friday the 13th has gone downhill since Part 6. It hit the very bottom of the barrel with Jason Goes to Hell (the writer can join him). As far as I'm concerned, one more movie can't do any more damage, so bring it on. From what I've heard, this one might even redeem the series. Sure it's not great art, but it doesn't pretend to be. If people take it for what it is, it should do just fine.

When I say Friday went downhill since Part 6, I mean that it reached its peak with Part 6 (after a few ups and downs). The downhill slide was pretty fast from 7 to 9.
