Sorry to return to the well so quickly but I have another mystery film. About 15 years ago I saw an Australian action comedy/thriller about some kind of dispute over land ownership. At the end the hero and villain fought it out in mechanical diggers at the edge of a cliff. The hero inevitably won the fight by pushing his rival's shovel over the edge. The film was set around the 1980's in the Outback with everyone wearing checked shirts and broad brimmed hats. I don't recall any major stars like Mel Gibson etc being in it. Perhaps you're thinking of the comedy "Young Einstein" (1988) starring Yahoo Serious? I've never seen it, but there are a few explosions in it and lots of wide-brimmed hats.

I've managed to solve this one. It was "Buddies" from 1983.
