Has anybody watched this move? I have and I must say it is awesome. I'm a bit confused why there's no review of it on this site.

I rented this on VHS quite a few years ago.  Pretty good.  Good gore.  The kid in this is probably my favorite representative of the "pre-teen in gory horror film" archetype, ala Tommy Jarvis.

Good gore in this one, this is one of those very low budget films where you can see they really tried hard, and the effort mostly pays off.  I do think there are a few slow spots that go on too long, and the ending is weak, but it's still a very good effort.  There's a special edition DVD which I thought about buying a while back, and never did.  I should really pick it up.  The commentary is probably pretty interesting.

Edit to add: Metamorphosis: the Alien Factor is basically a sequel to this.  You can really tell from the creature design.  Both films have their moments, but the original is the best.

The most interesting thing in this movie is the creature design. How can I not like something which has giant toothed alien worms. I would make a review for this movie, but I'm not very good at writing. I hope someone makes a review.

Yes... and I own it... :)

Although funny story:

Back in 1983 my father was going to take me and my sister to see Return of the Jedi and he ended up taking us to see The Return of the Alien the Deadly Spawn... he actually did think it was Return of the Jedi...

LOL, what was his reaction to the movie, or even letting his children see it?

His reaction was... "Part 3 sucked!"

I never told him the movie he seen wasnt Return of the Jedi, although I do recall telling my mother that he took us to the wrong movie and ended up watching it the next day... :)

as for children seeing it... 1983 was a different world,

Movies that I'd already seen before Deadly Spawn:

(From my mother-side) The Thing, Escape from New York, Friday the 13th part 2, Motel Hell... [as well as Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back]

(From my dad-side) Rocky 2 (boring when I seen it, I think I was 8)

(From my stepmother-side) ET (Oh god the worst move to see when your a 12 year old after watching The Thing), Tarzan, the Ape Man (1981) [hehe I dont know what she was thinking but the movie was almost like softcore porn for a 11 year old]

I did enjoy Deadly Spawn, even when I was 12... although it took me 3 times to like TCM because I had already seen a ton of good-gore flicks before I rented it.

I'm surprised how he even thought it was return of the Jedi, since the movie has nothing Star Wars-like in it. Or did your dad miss the first two and had no idea what to expect?

I'm not sure myself, I only seen him at the weekends (the two devorced when I was 3)

But through the years I have found that people has actually been "tricked" to see a film based on the misleading name. Although I think the intent was to attract the Alien audience, I bet they never expected to get somebody from Return of the Jedi.

I remember this, not sure if I still have the VHS or not... had no idea it was released on DVD, might pick it up if the extras are good.

I can't help but think though they spent most of the money on that "ripped face" effect.  I did like that clever bit near the end where the big monster lunges and we think he's grabbed the kid, but turns out he's bitten one of the smaller creatures.  That was pretty clever.

Interesting note, first heard about this from a film called Terror on Tape, which was pretty much a huge advertisement of a ton of horror films from some company or another.  (Come to think of it, I wonder if I could find that Vampire Hookers movies that was also mentioned in that film...)

Then don't just dismiss someone else who did.

That would be Empire Strikes Back lol...

Deadly Spawn is what would happen if Luke and Lea did get it on lol

Although...

For my father's defense...

I could see the Rancor mistaken as the Deadly Spawn...

or the Great Pit of Carkoon
