I know where my towel is.

This came in via email; I'm certain that the forum as a whole could identify more than 16 of these:

Quote
I need to track down a lot of movies, at least 16, that have scenes where different kinds of monsters are shaking the bars of their  cages;  Color is optimum but BW is okay too.

Quick ideas:

Definite matches:
Rocky Horror bangs on the cage bars in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"
The thing in the cell bangs on the door in "The Brain that Wouldn't Die"
The Ymir in "20 Million Miles to Earth"
"Jaws 3"
"Ice Spiders" (at the very end)
"The Dark Crystal"
"The Last Unicorn"

Films that I think contain this:
"King Kong Escapes"
"Mighty Peking Man"
"The Creature from the Black Lagoon"
"Konga"
"King Kong Lives"
"The Valley of Gwangi"

I think Trog had a scene with that.

I think The Manster (1959) had at least one scene of a mutated lady and possibly some other mutated people shaking cage bars. They might have just been grabbing the bars though. Out of curiosity, why does this person need this information?

Just wrapped up The Capture Of Bigfoot.  I can confirm one small scene at the end.

Murders in the Rue Morgue has stuff like this.  It's a gorilla though, dunno if that counts as a monster.

Shapeshifter has a similar scene.  People are trapped in a jail, and they lock themselves in a cell for safety.  The monster spends quite a bit of time rattling the bars trying to get in.

I do not know why.  I would guess some sort of school project, or possibly to create a compilation as a gift to someone.

I haven't verified any of these, but I'm reasonably confident they have bar-shaking scenes:

* BELA LUGOSI MEETS A BROOKLYN GORILLA

* MIGHTY JOE YOUNG

* FRANKENSTEIN CONQUERS THE WORLD

* FRANKENSTEIN AND THE MONSTER FROM HELL

Not sure how definite "cage" and "bars" need to be.  Would the raptors in Jurassic Park qualify (both in their cage when the power is on and in the machine room when the power is being turned back on and the doctor slams metal door shut with her feet)?

Based on what sort of thing is being looked for here, there are some less convension cages that get rattled.

Pretty sure the ape in trading places bangs on the bars.

I vaguely remember Return of Swamp Think having some scenes like that.  I think Carnivore had a scene like that as well.

I think The Monster Maker has a caged gorilla (guy in a suit of course) that shakes the bars a bit.

I'm uncertain of exactly what he will be using it for, so I'd say that any related suggestions are good.  Having a little more information than you need is not a bad thing.

planet of the apes

My word, how did I forget Charlton Heston in that cage, being sprayed with a firehose by a Gorilla that was yelling "Shut up, you freak!" the whole time?

I think The Monster Maker has a caged gorilla (guy in a suit of course) that shakes the bars a bit.

When I was brainstorming, I noticed that gorillas and apes were the ones most likely to be shaking those cage bars.  I wonder what movie, book, or story made that such a universal idea:  apes in cages, trying to get out.

I think the apes in cages probably has something to do with the early fears they represent, and their obvious similarity to man.  We know that WE would be trying to get out of a cage, and we tend to think they're more animalistic than us, so obviously they'd be stronger and just try to break out.

Plus, if you ever see monkeys and chimps in a caged environment (usually zoo enclosures are a little less ugly now) they actually DO grab the bars and yank 'em back and forth when agitated.
