I should say I don't watch movies for actors. For my money, a good director is the best barometer of what should be a good movie.
I do like actors, though. But an actor is usually only as good as the material, and every actor has a terrible film on their resume. In fact, the only actor I am aware of that never made a bad movie is
John Cazale, but he died too early.
So my first example is a bit silly, because it involves Crispin Glover. Make no mistake, I think Glover is a good actor, and if you read interviews with him, he's actually a really smart guy who knows what he's talking about. He's also more than a little deranged. The goals he has set up for himself, well, he's the only one who thinks those are a good idea.
But I think he generally puts in a good, albeit creepy performance in every movie he has been. Except for one movie,
Simon Says, which is bad in every sense of the word. Just pure crap, and Crispin Glover's performance was as bad, too.
So what movies do you think really hampers the reputation of otherwise reputable actors?
Another example, Anthony Hopkins was in
Audrey Rose, which was pure murder for me. Stupid, awful movie.
