I think I'm done with this board for awhile.

This forum has become too "diluted".  There are way too many topics and it's become completely oversaturated.
Hardly anyone writes anything interesting on here anymore. (my opinion, of course)  Yes, there are a few people here who write good stuff, but most of the rest of it is uninspired bulls**t.
I find myself longing for the old days when people wrote quality material.

Lately it's become quantity over quality.

We have people who've been here a year and they already have 3000-4000 posts.  Most of their posts consist of one or two sentences at most. (you know who you are)
I've been here for almost 10 years and in that entire time I've written just over 6000 posts.  But then again, I always put a lot of thought into what I wrote and wrote it in a way that made people respond.
I still do.  And you know what?  It gets lost in the random junk these days.
Take for example the recent B-movie Magic card thread I wrote.  It took me almost 3 hours to make those cards and 2...count 'em 2 people responded!  It isn't just that thread...there have been others, too.
Makes me feel pretty fu**ing unappreciated.  Been feeling that way for a long time here now.

What happened to the truly awesome threads that people used to write?
Sure, there still is the occasional one, but they're few and far between and have been for some time.

I've asked Andrew to put my karma at zero because what's the point of it anymore?

Until things improve, I'll probably just lurk.  I may post occasionally on the well-written threads and that's it.

See ya.

Circus, you were the last person I thought would get angry at what I wrote on this thread.
If it makes you feel any better, I wasn't referring to you at all.

And you're right, it isn't a competition.  I never said it was.
I've just become completely disillusioned by almost everything I read here on this forum nowadays.
It sucks.

I don't mind at all. There's no rule for people to say that they have to post a set amount of words. All the members of this board can post as much or as little as they like, and they shouldn't feel undervalued for it. That to me just smacks of elitism. I'm not trying to fall out with you Ash, or offend you. But, why not just do what you said you were going to do, instead of making a big deal out of it and posting. It just seems like you've thrown the toys out of your pram and are attention seeking.

Just my opinion.  Wink

Believe me when I say that I'm not seeking attention.
Everyone here knows me so there's no reason for me to do that.  Besides, if I really was seeking attention, I could think of much better ways to go about getting it.

I wrote this thread because I meant what I said.
I wrote it to call attention to my displeasure at what this board has become, why I've become disillusioned with it and why I'm taking a break from it.

There's a larger problem here that needs to be addressed, and maybe by writing about it, people can see that it exists.
After all the years I've spent here, I think I've earned the right to do that.

By the way...Happy Birthday Circus.  Smile

Ash, please help me to understand what you see as the problem.

Because from where I sit: it looks as though you are saying that members like *me* should not be posting because we don't contribute enough 'meat'.   I have been here as long as you, roughly, and I do not post much precisely because I don't feel I have much of value to contribute regarding the 'serious' side of bad movies.  That would be why most of my posts are in the sections lower down the board...the serious stuff is nearer the top.

Newt...

It's not like that at all.
I was worried that many of you would see it that way.
Don't.

It's many things.
Part of it is me...part of it is everything else here.

I just do not like what this forum has become.
I don't have fun here anymore.

Sorry you feel that way Ash.  Personally, I think how much fun I have on the board depends on what mood I'm in.  Sometimes I'll come here and just not find anything very interesting, other times I'll be responding to posts left and right.  I don't know what to say, I don't notice the problems you seem to be upset about.

I thought your cards were really nice, but I don't play whatever card game they're for, so I didn't really "get it".  It's always like that on discussion boards, or groups of people in general - you may be very interested in something, but as it turns out, very few other people in that particular group are.  As far as movies in general, I guess it's the nature of bad movies to be rather obscure, so when someone posts about one, chances are not too many other people have seen it, so responses other than "sounds good, I'll have to check it out" may be rather few in number.  In any event, it's just a post on the internet, it's not like your dog died or anything.

I hope you change your mind and stick around.  Sometimes people get a bit bored with things that used to be a lot of fun, but they just need to take a break.

Take care.

Ash, I think I kind of understand what you are saying. I've been on this board just about as long as you have; I remember several of your posts from the early days and how they concerned me (mostly ones about your brother). I remember you evolving a bit out of that bitterness and regaining your love of life. I even remember ticking you off a time or two  Bluesad . You do put a lot of thought into your posts, and you do sometimes get less response than you used to (I remember you taking great pride in almost always getting 50+ responses).

Things have changed here a bit; there are several newer members that do post a lot, though that's not really a bad thing in and of itself. I don't post a lot because I only like to post when I really feel I have something to say. Most of the time, what I say seems to go unnoticed, so I understand what you are saying about putting a lot of thought into something only to get few responses. I rarely post threads that get oodles of responses; my interests seem to (at times) be very different from most here. But I still like it here, and you are one of the reasons for that. If you feel you must take a break, fine: Do it. But know that many will miss your input.

Ash,

I am also sorry that you feel this way.  Sometimes I also make posts that do not get much in the way of replies, and it can be a little disheartening when it's something you are really interested in or that you put a lot of work into.  That is part of human interaction.  People do not always have the same passion for things.  In the case of your most recent Magic Cards thread, it can take a little while for all of us to check in and read the thread.  I liked the cards a lot; it's fun to see the things you brainstorm for the content.  It's that the last few days have been exceptionally busy in my house.

It wasn't just the cards Andrew.  It's more than that and it's been building up for a long time.

What I said on this board used to matter in the past.  Now nobody gives a s**t.
It's pointless.

I'm not leaving permanently like several other longstanding members have. (Menard, NShumate & others)
It's funny, now I know how they felt.
