In the TV show Dark Shadows, there's a Dr. Jekyll / Mr. Hyde plotline that involves a professor, Dr. Cyrus Longwroth, changing into his evil alter ego.  He hides his potion in a safe behind a painting in his lab.  This clip doesn't show the safe, but...it does show him almost knocking over a brick pillar  TeddyR

Was it a comedy? Could be "Zapped Too" where the lead character develops telekinesis after drinking a special formula. He keeps the formula hidden behind a painting or something too.

How young were the actors? It could be any number of films.

Perhaps The Invisible Maniac or Jekyll & Hyde Together Again?
