I was reading about Christian military fiction in a book about Americans who think the rapture is coming (weird way to get to this, I know).  One thing that came about was one of the authors of the books once wrote for a series of books about a character known as the Executioner.  Basically, it's an ongoing series starting in the sixties and still going, with over SIX HUNDRED books in the series.  And I'd never heard of it.

I looked it up, and it sounds pretty entertaining.  The character is also VERY OBVIOUSLY the source for the Marvel Comics anti-hero, The Punisher.

So, I was trying to find the first couple of books, but they're evidently out of print.  Has anyone read any of them?

When I was in the navy, back in the early 80's, those were like Harlequin Romances for guys.  Every issue Mack Bolan would blow away a few Mafiosi and lay a different woman or two.  Then some of the last ones I read he was redirected away from the personal war he was waging on the mob and went to work directly for President Reagan . . . those were some fun books!  haven't read one in years.

I have several of these books, mostly about the battles waged by Mack Bolan's soldiers who call themselves "Phoenix Force". They even come to South Africa at one point in the book Time Bomb ~ this is the worst book of the lot where all the stereotypical South Africans are portrayed.

Somebody donated one of these books to the library today.

I've never read them, but I used to read a comic series based on "The Destroyer" series, which was the inspiration for the film Remo Williams.

This is one of the Executioner books that I have. Not bad at all ~ at one point, Mack Bolan assists the Taliban!  Buggedout

Yeah, the books are actually published by Harlequin (!) now.  Pretty funny.  I'll have to track some down.

Try used book stores. They usually have an action section or male action series section and you'll find these. My dad read them religiously. I only managed to wade through about 15 before they made me ill.  Same story over and over and over. Even when he started going after terrorists, it was the same stories but in foreign countries.

If you can't find any, let me know. The used bookstore I go to has tons of them.
