BBC News is reporting the passing of British actor Richard Todd, star of The Dam Busters and the owner of the eerie laugh that Dezi Arnaz Jr couldn't place in House of the Long Shadows.

Mr Todd made several films in South Africa, including The Hellions (the first African made Western) Coast of Skeletons and Sanders.

RIP Mr Todd.  Bluesad

And I've seen "The Hellions."

One film Trevor did not mention is 1952's "The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men" with Richard Todd in the title role and regarded as being one of the better adaptations of the Robin Hood story. And who played the Sheriff of Nottingham in the film? Some actor named Peter Finch.

RICHARD TODD made a few films in Hollywood including THE VIRGIN QUEEN with BETTE DAVIS and A MAN CALLED PETER.  Sadly, he had lost two of his sons to suicide.  Mr. TODD passed away December 3, after a long life and having worked at his beloved vocation, acting, for many many years.
Good night, RICHARD.

Going back to Trevor's mention of the South African western "The Hellions" w/ Richard Todd, South Africa probably dupes the American Old West more than most countries.

We had the Native Americans.
They had the African tribesmen.

We had a goldrush.
They had a goldrush.

We had the wagon train.
They had the wagon laager.

We had the Battle of the Little Big Horn.
They had the Battle of Isandlwana.

And I'm sure Trevor can think of more similiarities.
