I don't listen to any classic rock stations.  Lookingup

I understand what you're saying, but my point is Balzac are awful in comparison to alot of bands. Your arguement was that Balzac were the antithesis of everything considered serious or popular musically. You claim that's what rock n' roll is all about. That's the punk mentality quite clearly. Rock n' roll is about an energy, a feeling, a spirit that music instills in people. You'll find that in plenty of bands far better than Balzac whether they are popular or not - whether they sell f**king t-shirts or not.

Look at the Sex Pistols for instance, they were thrown together and couldn't play a lick, but are well remembered. At the time disco was the dominant force in the charts and the Sex Pistols were the complete other end of the spectrum. They were brash and in your face and the kids back then ate that up - as is the case with every musical generation. The Pistols for their time were great and did inspire alot of other bands. But Balzac have been around since what? 1992? They're only well known in their native Japan and at the end of the day what's the point of playing music if you can't actually play?

Just so you know, the only reason I kicked up a stink about this is because, hardly anyone knew who they were when they got posted on the fame or shame game, plus how the hell Journey got killed off before them is beyond me - and I'm not even a Journey fan btw!

You praise the Sex Pistols, then you say "what's the point of playing music if you can't actually play?"  It's like you get it but you don't get it at the same time.  If you look back at my posts, I never said Balzac was my favorite band of all time, I even mentioned how they haven't sounded as good to me as they used to in their early days.  And I agree with you about the Pistols.  I would have saved them over Balzac.  You are right, I am coming from the "punk mentality" as you put it, and I'm sure you can see that Balzac was the most "punk rock" of all of the bands on the list, so naturally they got my votes.

I just meant that I can tell the difference between geniune talent and artists that are crap, regardless of personal taste or popularity. I never said Balzac was your favourite band of all time either. I'll shut up now.  Smile

I guess were back to where we were when we started this conversation a few days ago.  One man's crap is another man's gold.  I can leave it at that.  I'm going to shutup now too.  At least until I happen to see another band worth saving on the list. Smile

Music is a passion for all and its easy to get fired up about who is better than who.  Almost like a sports rivalry but lets do our best to keep things civil.

Duran Duran, the ever-popular 1980s band, was put to shame.

What a shame ;-) Actually, I quite like a lot of their stuff, and, compared to a lot of other 1980s pop acts, I think they were quite original.

It's been a while since I've checked the list.  I thought Michael Jackson would have made it in by now.  Maybe there's hope for you guys yet.
BounceGiggle

How appropriate to see Bad Company still wallowing in mediocrity at 18 after all this time on the list.  It's a fate well-suited for them.
 BounceGiggle

I was going to jump in again just to knock a couple points off Michael Jackson, but that would have required me to save Willie Nelson.  I had it all ready to go with my cursor on the submit button, but I just couldn't do it.

Alvin & the Chipmunks obviously didn't annoy only me as they enter the Hall of Shame.

Whether you agree with what he did (or didn't?! Who knows if it's all true?) in his personal life, he definitely belongs in any music-based Hall of Fame for his contributions to music.

You're talking about MJ, of course.  To be honest, I never liked a single one of his songs.  I was completely nonplussed by the success of "Thriller" at the time.  But just based on his immense popularity, he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.  Lots of people obviously connect with his stuff, just not me.

Yes I was referring to Michael Jackson. You could argue that he forever changed music with his contributions.

Michael made music magical on all levels.  He belongs in the Hall Of Fame, plain and simple.
