U2 has some songs I love but mostly pumps out stuff I don't like at all.  Their last few albums I found to be completely unsustainable.  Yet they somehow win awards for them.  Hence why I don't watch award shows much.

Alice in Chains joins the Hall of Fame.
I've made it known many times on the board how much I enjoy AIC.  Easily in my top 10 favs of all time.

Heart joins the Hall of Shame. They did have a few tunes I enjoyed and I remember them being quite popular in their time but truthfully I never personally found anything of theirs music-wise to be truly memorable.

R.E.M. joins the Hall of Fame. I've been a huge fan of R.E.M. for practically as long as I can remember but I definitely feel their earlier stuff from I.R.S. is their best stuff (Murmur, Reckoning, Lifes Rich Pageant, Fables of the Reconstruction, Document) while it was less successful than their WB hit albums (not to say there weren't some great ones - Green, Out of Time and Automatic For the People come to mind). Their more recent output has some great songs here and there (but honestly I think it pales to the stuff they did in the 80s and early 90s) as the band as always has re-invented itself time and time again sometimes more successfully than others.

Kiss joins the Hall of Fame. Say what you want about Kiss, they sure always knew how to put on a show and I can't help but think of them when I think of the 1970s.

ABBA joins the Hall of Shame. Buggedout My girlfriend's sister would have a conniption fit if she knew this as they're her long time favourite band. I think personally they have some good tunes but I could take 'em or leave 'em.

The Beach Boys join the Hall of Fame. Catchy good-natured tunes that can most easily be associated with fun in the sun and good times. Their music is also highly influential on numerous other bands IMO.

Kid Rock joins the Hall of Shame. Personally I do think he can be a good showman but his music doesn't strike me as being particularly memorable and certainly isn't what I personally consider Hall of Fame material.

The Beach Boys had that catchy good-natured side, but what sold me on them is the more thoughtful Pet Sounds.  And Good Vibrations is a pop symphony.  Definitely Hall of Fame material.

The Police join the Hall of Fame. As a kid I loved their music and I find it still has a sort of timeless quality and lasting appeal. I certainly prefer it a lot over Sting's singles work.

Supertramp was put to Shame. Honestly I'm more indifferent about them than anything else.

Don't like Supertamp much.  I had "Breakfast in America" as a teen but rarely listened to it.  Hall of Shame is fine with me.

Madonna joins the Hall of Shame. Say what you want, Madonna sure knew how to market her sexuality and invent and reinvent herself to maintain a great deal of popular appeal. Personally I never really liked any of her music and the best thing I liked inspired by her was Weird Al's "Like A Surgeon".

Not at all surprised to see Madonna in the Hall of Shame.  As you say, she was a genius at marketing herself, but I don't think she's added anything of particular value to the field of popular music.
