If anyone can help, you guys can...
Two puzzles:

Puzzle 1
I remember this old movie, color, I think, late forties or early fifties maybe, and it involves a lot of adventurer types, mostly men but one woman, suddenly entering a closed kingdom.
I remember that for their crime of trespass, they were threatened with a Slide of Death, a big blade that the victims slide down. At the bottom was a bed of spikes, as if the blade wasn't enough.
To make his point, the king, caliph or rajah tells one of his body guard to throw themselves down it to prove it's effectiveness and his absolute power.
It might be a Tarzan movie or simply an Alan Quartermainn great white hunter type of thing.
I'm pretty sure that it's American and a mainstream movie studio produced it.
Seen on TV but not a TVM.

Puzzle 2
Back between 1967 and 1972 I went to the cinema and watched a movie set on a tropical island.
It was American but it must have had a UK release between these dates.
The only thing I can remember was that there were a lot of girls i it, and I mean a lot, it was some kind of cheesecake movie with bikini's and tight outfits but no nudity that I can remember.
I seem to remember the title as Girls! Girls! Girls! but it's not this or any other Elvis movie, though there were musical numbers.
I remember some kind of hero beating some kind of villain, but mainly it was a vehicle for the admiration of wonderful females in a beach setting. Possibly from the stable of Roger Corman or something similar?
I seem to remember lots of dancing on the beach and striped tops.
No location work, all in studio work.
Sorry to be vague, but it's a good forty years ago now...

I should have put that higher up the list of things to do, shouldn't I?

Any advice or ideas ?

Many thanks

Puzzle 1 is easy - The Long Ships

Sidney Poitier has one of his men ride the slide.

Puzzle 2 is beyond me. You'll need somebody else to help.

cheers,

Your second title sounds a bit like HOW TO STUFF A WILD BIKINI.

It definitely sounds like one of those Frankie and Annette beach movies, and that's the best fit I can think of too.  However, I am pretty sure that most of them had some actual beach scenes.  The leads surfing and other scenes like that were all obviously faked, but otherwise the beach scenes were real.  Here's a link to those films:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059287/movieconnections

If you remember a silly witch doctor (Buster Keaton) who wanted torpedo juice to perform his magic, then "How to Stuff a Wild Bikini" is your film.  Some of the film's action takes place on the faked tropical island, but quite a lot goes on at the beach in California.

This IMDb link to movies with "Beach Party" as a keyword might help:

Many, many thanks for your help with the Long Ships. I checked it out and whilst it's not what i remember, this is definitely the movie.
I'm going to do a little research into the beach movie, and you've really given me some fantastic leads here.

Many thanks again!

I wonder if Stonethrower did "a little research" and pursued all of the "fantastic leads"... and if so, if he was amused or upset by MONSTER A GO GO, a suggestion that I imagine must surely have been in jest as it bares no resemblance whatsoever to the film he described.  BounceGiggle Heck, maybe he was grateful... I love MONSTER A GO GO for its existential dadadism. But we know of course that some Posters get hyper-sensitive when someone suggests an inappropriate solution to their mystery........ Lookingup

What would we ever do?   I'm tired of tripping over these 10, 11 year old threads... thanks for cleaning 'em up.   Smile

My pleasure... it's a nice distraction from the real work I should do.
