This is not your Grandpa's Wolfman.  Lots of throat ripping, dismembering, and decapitating. But wait there's story too.   Don't really want to spoil anything, but Rick Baker's wolfman make up is great. Look for his extremely short cameo.

How would you say it compares to the original?

Not nearly as good.  It's watchable and fairly entertaining, with some good acting, but there's really not much to it.  I was disappointed.

I gave it Three Barrels out of a possible maximum of Five.  I try to always look on the positive, and found THE WOLFMAN to be a celebration of 75 years of werewolf movies, not just the 1941 WOLF MAN.  Make-up was good, though I didn't care for the CGI touch-ups on it.

Also, it to me really glorified being a werewolf, cutting down some of the tragedy of the original.  "I can jump tall buildings! I can tip over steam carriages! This is sooooo cooooool!"

My full thoughts are here.

Usually Horror Movie Remakes Are Terrible And Bring Shame On The Originals
, But This One Is Actually Really Good And Makes Me Love The Original Even More!

I'm Going Back To The Theater Tomorrow To See It Again!

I don't know if it was just me, but a couple of times I could swear that delToro was channeling Lon Chainey Jr.'s voice.

I didn't know Rick Baker was involved. That deserves a go alone. But I suspect it's still probably mostly CGI, is it not?

The transformations are almost entirely CG (entirely CG, actually, but I THINK they did some practical transformation with CG on top of it), but A LOT of the time Benicio as the wolfman is just him in practical makeup.  In some shots they use a combination (as his legs are of the wolf variety), but in all the medium and closeups it's just him in the makeup.  Really good makeup, actually, basically an update of the original design.

I couldn't agree more. But, then, we're not in Hollywood, are we?

I've been extremely busy and won't see THE WOLFMAN until tomorrow, but I couldn't resist sharing a bit of trivia I recently discovered about THE HOWLING:

The actor playing the extremely creepy werewolf Eddie is none other than Robert Picardo, better known as the medical hologram in Star Trek: Voyager.

Well, the cat is out of the bag. It seems an ardent tweenie fan of the Twilight films has called Universal out on their blatant copying of Stephenie Meyer's work. Their new film, The Wolfman is an obvious rip off of Jacob and the wolf pack. I mean, didn't everyone know that Miss Meyer invented werewolves?

Part of me wonders it that's fake. It's hard for me to understand how anyone old enough to watch and appreciate those films can be so ignorant of the origins of all the things Meyer uses.

WOW I was thinking the same thing!

I loved this movie, I watched it last night... AWESOME movie! I enjoyed the part when Deltoro calls the German doctor a moron then all hell breaks out, best part lol...

ALOT of blood and guts in this one... flying arms ,legs, and heads you name it...

Also I was wondering about the music, is that NOT the same or almost the same music from Bram Stoker's Dracula w/keanu reeves? WOW it was really good, fit the movie very well!

BTW... im not going to act tuff and lie lol, this movie scared the hell out me a FEW times! Damn!
