I AM THE BAD PHOTOSHOP EFFECT!

« on: February 15, 2010, 06:20:41 PM »

I didn't see a post talking about this movie, so I'll bring it up.

It's days before the End of the World and Michael the Archangel is out to stop it.  He becomes mortal by cutting off his winges and breaking his halo (which apparently is some sort  of restraing collar)

Cut to a tiny dinner out in the desert.  A woman is pregnant, a fighting family is stuck there, as well as some other assorted characters get stuck there as all tv and radio signals go down.    As scene in the trailer, a grandmother somehow gains the powers of Venom from Spiderman and attacks the pregnant woman.  After she's put down, up shows Michael.  He explains that angles ae posseing people and are trying to kill the woman, because her baby is the last hope for humanity.  So on, and so on.

For an action movie, whose backdrop is the literal Apocyalyse, this movie is kind of boring.  Most of the angel-possed people act like zombies from some other movies.  Some have powers, like the granny and the Ice Cream Man (a role played by Doug Johns).  So many of the fights look like something I've seen before.

The best action sequence is a fight between the angel Gabriel and Michael.  It serves as the best example of how Hawkman could work on the big screen for a JSA movie. (Yes, I know he was on Smallvile recently-but he still looks silly in my opinion)

There are plenty of good ideas in this film that aren't shown or explored.  They talk about angels decending on the world and attacking humanity, but we never see it.  That would have been much more interesting then the Day of the Dead angels we see throughout most of the film.

I would suggest waiitng to get a used DVD and fast forwarding through most of the boring scens and get to the action sequences.

At least, that's what Gary Busey told me...

I was expecting a catastrophic failure that I'd mock for my own enjoyment the whole time.  What I got instead was a bad film with some minor redeeming elements, like a few good performances and a couple good ideas.

I'd have rather had the catastrophic failure.

4/10.
