Yeah, and while I enjoy the series, Friday the 13th is an incredibly dumb series of films. Saw, at least initially, tried to have some degree of intelligence and had a fairly complicated plot with twists and what have you. Then they made it really stupid.
Basically, if they wanted to have eight films, they never should have gotten rid of the main antagonist. And since they did, they should have ended the series. I totally agree with you on Tobin Bell though - he was the best thing about Saw from the very beginning.

I agree with that. If they knew they were stretching it to 7, they shouldn't have killed him. Could've still done the 'flashback' stuff they've been doing without him dying. The series started off rather intelligently, dumbed down over time. But you still have to remember a scene from part 2 in order to like, understand part 6 and stuff. Which makes it almost a chore that when a new one gets released, you kinda have to re-watch the first films to enjoy the new one.
Didn't the writer or director of Saw 1 actually die right after it came out? That could explain how it got to this point of garbage.
It was a producer. The writer/directors of part 1 are still involved, but more indirectly. But they're friend, who helped them with 1-3, passed away right after part 3 got released.
