ZONTAR: THE THING FROM VENUS (1966) - Ooooo this one hurt. John Agar stars as the good guy in this Alien from Venus film. Much like IT CONQUERED THE WORLD (1956) and even ROBOT MONSTER (1953) . This Zontar film has a monster in a cave trying to take over the world by transmitting messages to his human pawn who talks to him by some type of closet radio. In other words it's a remake of another B-Movie. The best scene is when the wife comes out of the bathroom with one of those flying injector creatures lets it go in the home while telling her husband she is going to take a walk and will be right back. The husband then fights off this bug eyed creature with a fireplace poker.

What this site is made for!!
Splendid -- simply splendid in every bad respect!
(Nice still, by the way -- can you run some more?)
John Agar deserves a B-Film Lifetime Acheivement Award for services Above and Beyond . . .
Heavily influenced The Lost Skeleton of Cadavara --
"I think his name . . . wasss . . .  Zon-tar . . .!"
What delivery!  What dialogue!  I really need to see it again -- Thanks Scott!!

This is a made-for-television remake of IT CONQUERED THE WORLD, directed by Larry Bucannan.

AIP, for some reason, decided in the mid-60's to remake some of their 1950's product, and release it as a package for tv, no doubt spurred on by the proliferation of horror film shows cropping up on local tv stations.

If it's true what they say, that GOD created us in His image, then why should we not love creating, and why should we not continue to do so, as carefully and ethically as we can, on whatever scale we're capable of?

The choice is simple; refuse to create, and refuse to grow, or build, with care and love.

"Its name could not possibly be pronounced in the human tongue but I will do so anyway."

I have this as part of a 50 Movies Pack but for some weird reason the CD it came on lists it as Giants of Rome, complete with a summary of that film instead of Zontar. The same thing appears on the collection's box: no mention of Zontar at all.

AIP wanted color movies to show on TV.  They hired Larry Bucannan because he could get something done cheaply.  Mr. Bucannan told AIP that he could work more quickly if they gave him scripts, so they handed him whatever they had.  Unfortunately, AIP's films were already slow, and Mr. Bucannan needed to make 90 min movies, not 70 min movies, so Zzzzzzzzz.....
