This one has been getting quite the positive buzz at horror forums on the internet. Director Ti West's "homage" to 80s horror is a slick and fun little occult shocker that not only looks but also feels like it was made around 1982-83.
Some did complain about the pacing and 'not enough happening' but people tend to b***h about everything  Wink
Those who like retro-style horror or grew up with VHS horror in the 80s will most likely get a kick out of The House of the Devil. Highly recommended  Thumbup

I haven't seen it but I like the other movies I've seen from SacreFlix---I CAN SEE YOU and I SELL THE DEAD.  This one got good reviews and I suspect it will be very good.

I don't think I would say this is the greatest movie ever made, but I'm a huge Tom Noonan fan.

His perfomance in this film is so subtly creepy, I would say it's one of the best things to come out of 2009.

Tom Noonan and Mary Woronov? You should watch it on those two names alone.

This film is all about the build up, and tension. The story of course plays into the Satanic Panic of the '80s, and if you had told me it was filmed in 1982 then I would have believed it from the hairstyles, and scenery down to the titles. Ti West seems to have a good understanding of how mood and music (or the absence of it!) can draw the viewer in. This has been both praised and lambasted on various sites, but if you are a fan of the more cerebral horror films of the 1970s then I highly recommend this one.

It is breath of fresh air in this past decade of torture porn, and shameless remakes. As Mofo said it is worth it for Tom Noonan, and Mary Woronov alone.

First I've heard of it, but if it's based on the Satanic Panic of the 80's then I'm interested. That was a strange time. Fundamentalist AND charismatic Chrisitian movements were reading books like "Michelle Remembers" and spinning records backwards and telling us that Led Zeppelin was trying to get everyone to worship Satan. By the way, "Michelle Remembers" was pretty much widely debunked several years after it was released, but the damage had been done. Also, the panic which Monster Jungle X-Ray eludes to came on the heals of a decade's worth of occult-oriented fiction such as The Exorcist, The Amityville Horror, and The Omen. You could throw the supposedly "non-fiction" Michelle Remembers in there as well. Throw in a few fear sermons by preachers on the Praise the Lord network, add water and  presto, instant panic. Sheep are so easily led. Not that I have anything against organized religion.  Wink

Anyway, I'm going to have to check this out. If it's got the authentic 80's feel to it as suggested, it might be good.
