Peter Graves. The pilot in Airplane!, Jim Phelps in the 1966 TV series of Mission: Impossible, and the host of Biography died today.  According to E! Online and IMDb it was of natural causes in his home in Los Angeles area.  He was 83.

Thought I'd mention this, I really did love him in Airplane!  (I never saw the sequel).  It also seems he was still acting up to his death.  RIP  Bluesad

(Just for the record, I know I missed mentioning some of his other credits.  The ones I did mention were the ones I knew him best from.)

Sad news.  Peter Graves is well remembered for his roles is Mission Impossible and the comedy Airplane, but also did some sci fi from the 1950's including  IT CONQUERED THE WORLD and BEGINNING OF THE END.  I believe he also did some tv westerns.

As a side note, his brother is James Arness, star of long running tv western GUNSMOKE. James Arness also portrayed the alien visitor in THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD.

This is really sad news.  A friend of mine actually got to meet Peter Graves one time and said that he was incredibly nice and humble. R.I.P. Mr. Graves... Bluesad

Weird, I never thought about how old he was. He had the white hair for so long, he never seemed to change.

For me, he will always be Captain Clarence Oveur. Perfect deadpan delivery of some of the funniest lines in the movie.

RIP I definately think of 'Begining of the End" especially the skit about him going to the University of Minnestoa  BounceGiggle.  FOX had a sci fi movie of his  I think called "where did all the people go" about the last people on Earth that was really cool. from the 70's

With all the great stuff Peter Graves did, I'll always remember him best for KILLERS FROM SPACE and IT CONQUERED THE WORLD. R.I.P...always a great screen presence in whatever he appeared in. He was in PARTS: THE CLONUS HORROR and RED PLANET MARS too.

Either he's dead or my watch has stopped!

He had a good long life.  Survived by his older (and taller) brother JAMES ARNESS, PETER GRAVES was a class act in a town sorely in need of class.  He will be missed.  Good night, PETER AURNESS

He was a standard image in my television viewing as I grew up. Thank god we have all those movies and TV shows because life wouldn't the same without a Peter Graves on a screen somewhere.

Sleep well, Mr. Graves.
