i posted twice up here before and you have gotten both right
a boy and girl fall in love ,small town USA,he is on the football team and drives and older truck from the 40s the girl is the town bicycle but these two fall in love ,now she no longer wants to be with the other boys ,they gang rape her one night then the boy end up going crazy and goes after them any ideas ,I saw this film maybe in the early 70s

Probably not what you are thinking of, but Midnight Cowboy has a scene very similar to what you are thinking of.
