I posted this as a separate topic because the previous one dealt with a "rumored" project. It's no longer a rumor, apparently.
http://movies.ign.com/articles/108/1080429p1.htmlLegendary intends to approach the film and its characters in the most authentic manner possible.
So, they're saying this won't be another Crash of the Titans? (Based on what I'm hearing about the movie, anyway)
These guys did do the new Batman movies, and did a pretty damn good job with them. They were also associated with Watchmen, which was very true to the original. However, I'm a skeptic. Show me the money. So many people make claims that movies and games will turn out a certain way and then POOF! Turns into a disaster.
The company will, in the near future, announce a filmmaker to helm the film for an intended 2012 release.
If I hear any of the following names, I will shoot someone: Michael Bay, Paul WS Anderson, Roland Emmerich. I doubt they'll go with the third, especially seeing how he horribly raped the last American remake.
"Our plans are to produce the Godzilla that we, as fans, would want to see. We intend to do justice to those essential elements that have allowed this character to remain as pop-culturally relevant for as long as it has."
[crosses fingers]
In addition to Legendary, producers on the new film will be Dan Lin, Roy Lee and Brian Rogers. Yoshimitsu Banno, Kenji Okuhira and Doug Davison will Executive Produce.
Yoshimitsu "Yeah, I directed Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster" Banno. At least we're getting someone with prior Godzilla making knowledge. I don't recognize the other names, but I'm sure IMDbing or Googling them would show me a little more.
I have about moderate hopes for this film. US has been given one last shot at redemption. I'm hoping to see a Godzilla movie that will make us all forget about that horrible Disasterzilla movie.
