Okay, this one should be easy, I remember seeing a movie back several years ago about this class of students (and their teacher) being kidnapped by four armed gunmen.  The gunmen wear masks: one's Santa Claus, another's a Duffy Duck style, and I can't recall the other two.  The class seems to either be a "special" class (as the kids are all mixed ages) that or the town is just THAT small.  Anyway, they're taken to a cave with a pool of water nearby and the teacher manages to get them out by swimming under the water and to another part of the cave (although she and a student almost drown in the process.)

Sadly, the very first farmhouse they come to for help happens to be the same one where the kidnappers have holed up, taken an old couple hostage.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I can give out more details of scenes I remember, but I think that should be enough.

It's the 1985 film Fortress.

As soon as I saw the subject heading, I thought the film might be "Fortress." Thus, I agree with Ash. Doing a little checking on the film, I see that it's an Australian film, and that it was originally made for television.

Yes as soon as I saw your post I knew iimediately that you were reffering to Fortress with Rachael Ward. This was based on a true story that I believe took place somewhere in Central California.Anyway the main kidnapper had the Santa Claus mask and the others had like crow masks or as you say almost like a Daffy Duck mask. What a great movie especially when the teacher and her students have to fight back in order to survive.
