Early this month a newly restored version of  Fritz Langs masterpiece "Metropolis" was reliesed. It makes use of newly found material and as far as I heared, it is a totaly new film ! Even the plot seems to be different. Has anybody seen this new version?

In the US it's only been screened in NYC, and only starting last week.  I'm hoping it will go on tour but I'm guessing we'll have to wait for a DVD version to see it.   :bluesad:

I'm waiting until James Cameron does a remake in 3-D.

I can't even begin to address the horror.

I am a bit put off by the eternal issue of old films "finally restored!!" - This was done with King Kong, Greed, Intolerance, etc. etc.  At some point, I would genuinely love it if someone would finally come up with all the "missing" scenes to these films - it seems a tad contrived . . .
That said, no, I have neither seen nor heard of it being shown anywhere locally - Perhaps the Moroder (Murderer?) "definitive" version put people off from seeing another attempt.
I'm still waiting for "London After Midnight" and the log rolling/insect pit sequence from King Kong to arrive -
Bet me:  After this "restored" version, another will come out in another 10 years - "Yes, Keeds!  The real, super dooper uncut for real this time -- It really is!!  . . . It!  I mean, this is it!! . . ."  and so forth.  I don't look upon it as film restoration so much as nerds with nitrite in their attics portioning out to pay their bills - Put bluntly:  There is NO reason why any of this "restored" footage could not have been put back in in 1945 . . . rant . . . wheeze . . . Wyre Wizard!!  . . . Is that you? . . .

I understand what you're saying, but in this case the entire film was, literally, "missing." They only very recently discovered a single intact version in Argentina. And we're not talking about a "couple scenes" here, the majority of the story was completely cut. (Not a unique prospect at the time.)  It's not a case of adding scenes to cash in, the full movie was not believed to exist ANYWHERE until they found this 16mm copy in 2005.
