There's always a lot of talk in the b-movie scene about the laughably bad monsters such as Gorillas in diving suits, and gigantic tusked carrots, however there is substantially less talk about where bad movies have succeeded in created repulsive, terrifying, cool, and/or plain effective monsters.

Naturally, we tend to focus on the "bad" aspects of "bad movies", but a movie can still be atrocious overall yet excel in a particular area.

Granted, larger budget movies are able to create more effective creatures such as the Xenomorph from Alien, or the various versions of The Thing from John Carpenter's remake, due to the technical wizardry afforded by money. However, while the b-movie world is populated by fake looking rubber masks and juddering animatronics, there's got to be at least a few gems out there.

I don't know, but this looks pretty cool for a b-movie (at least until the head comes off).

Amost all of Ray Harryhausen's films were B-movies but he created some of the most effective monsters ever - the Ymir is a personal favorite!

THE MONSTER OF PIEDRAS BLANCAS was definitely a ultra-low budget horror, but the title creature loked great - sorta like, to quote Michael Weldon, the Creature from the Black Lagoon's scarier cousin.

I just can't look at Ymir anymore without thinking how much he looks like Paul Teutul Sr. BounceGiggle

Nobody else will agree, but I say The Giant Claw looks utterly terrifying.
