Here is a thread that will pay tribute to some of the most misunderstood sequels out there in the realm of movies (good and bad alike).

These are my examples of continuations that I strongly feel get an unnessesary bad rap:

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom: Besides the abysmal Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, this one also gets a s*** on by fans and movie goers. Most of the criticism goes either to Temple of Doom's dark nature (i.e. Brutal scenes of child labour, the Kali ritual involving hearts being torn out) or to the characters of Willie Scot and Short Round.

My defence for the movie: Sure, Willie was a little annoying, but you have to consider that Willie is your typical spoiled, rich celebrity who knows absolutley nothing about the wilderness, so it is thus natural for her to start freaking out at every odd thing/animal that she comes into contact with. (I have nothing to defend Short Round as I felt that he was pretty annoying).

As for ther dark nature: the film needed these elements and scenes in order for the audience to truly feel disgusted, frightened and threatened by the villains. Whithout these, the evil characters would just appear to be pushovers. Plus: I would much rather see Indiana Jones fight something different other than soldiers.

The Fly II: The negative reaction to this movie is mind boggling. I do admit that it's not as good as the first one, but it deserves better credit than it's given. Eric Stoltz and Daphne Zuniga give great performances. Although they weren't as impressive as Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis were, I still cared for the characters. Plus Martinfly was so damn cool looking.

Alien 3: Another unfairly maligned sequel, mainly attacked for the fact that Newt and Hicks were killed off in the beginning and for the convicts being not fleshed out enough. As a fan, I never cared for Newt and Hicks (I also didn't like Aliens for that matter), so their deaths did not bother me. As for the convicts: these people are described as murderers, thieves, rapists and child molestors. What more of a back story could one possibly want? Plus, I wasn't bothered by the absence of blasting machine guns, as the movie is called Alien 3, not Aliens 3.

What are some other sequles that you find are underrated.

Meet the Fockers
I love Meet the Parents but I'm afraid I thought this sequel was abysmal...but that's obviously why you think it's underrated, so fair enough  TeddyR

HALLOWEEN 3: THE SEASON OF THE WITCH.  It's lots of fun.  People would have appreciated it a lot more if it had just been named SEASON OF THE WITCH.

I agree with you, Rev. This was on the Space channel last week. I've always had a soft spot for it. An enjoyable flick despite the lack of whatshisname! Which reminds me, Halloween II (original, natch) creeped me out moreso than the first one for some strange reason. I've always been creeped out by hospitals so I think it qualifies as underrated.
