My question is... are they gonna put some old age makeup on him?   That's actually unfair, Edward Woodward was just in his mid 50's when he did the show.

I suppose Crowe has a similar menacing squint to Edward Woodward, but I wouldn't have thought of him as Robert McCall.

I will say he is an improvement over Jason Statham. I like Statham, but I wouldn't want to see The Equalizer turned into one of his typical high-energy action flicks.

Woodward was well into middle age, but he very much looked like he would and could kick your ass.

True, Woodward projected a sort of low-key menace that is not easy to do while being a good guy. McCall wasn't even what I would call an anti-hero. He was a genuine good guy whose bad side you just didn't want to get on. And his age only gave the impression that he'd been around, and probably seen and done things that would shock most people. A younger guy couldn't play the part.

I've read that Robert McCall was actually David Callan ~ Mr Woodward's emotionally tortured government agent / killer for hire in the British TV series of the same name ~ and I really don't agree with Russell Crowe playing Robert McCall. I can't see Russell Crowe delivering a line like the one below like Mr Woodward did:

[Interrogating an unco-operative baddie] "You have five seconds to give us the name. [pause] Time's up! Throw him out of the window!"  Buggedout

Here's a little tribute to the original    You should also look Here and checkout some out the guest stars that appeared on the show.
