Burgers, fries, and shakes are no one's idea of low calorie, but all things in moderation can't hurt once in a while ... at least that's my philosophy. Sure, kids want the "toy", but it's up to the parents to monitor what their children eat ... and how often they eat fast food.

What gets me more is McDonalds charges a customer a "dining in" tax. I don't know of any other fast food chains that do.

If I was McDonald's I'd sue them for extortion.  They're not even making an attempt to say McDonald's is doing anything illegal, they just want to make a big stink so they can get some money.

Once again, certain members in our society simply lack discipline.  Either that or people are looking to make a quick buck.  I would actually be more bugged by the lack of discipline thing, at least people who make asinine claims like this group have ambition to make a buck.   TeddyR  Discipline is everything when it comes to eating.   You need to know what you're putting in your body and how much of it can go in (twss).  Its kind of like those people who sued McDonald's because the food made them fat (or something to that manner).

Hey, how else are they gonna pay for all those free napkins and condiments?   BounceGiggle

Yep, people will sue other things for really absurd reasons.

This is a non-profit group, so it's not about money.  It's about ideology---they're "health Nazis."

Trying to take away the toys from a Happy Meal?  But that just takes out of the happy and leaves kids with just a meal!  People blow my mind.

If they're going to go after McDonald's for attracting kids with toys, why not go after toy companies for filling childrens' tv shows with ads for toys? I mean, kids nag their parents for them and some of those toys are potentially dangerous (the vast majority are safe if wasteful, but every year some dope of a company puts out something that can and does seriously hurt children).

And heck, why not slam these companies for potentially slowly turning kids into consumption-driven zombies that buy whatever the ads tell them to? Well, except for the fact that it can't be directly tied to any one company, can't be 100% proven and at any rate the consumer mentality is the backbone of capitalism.

Good point, even though they're a "non-profit" it could still be about money.  Let's just say it's not about personal greed.

When The Center for Science in the Public Interest sued fast food companies before, they settled for changes in corporate policy rather than $$$.  I believe they're previous lawsuit forced McDs to disclose the caloric content of menu items.  They didn't get a cent off it, in fact they probably lost a ton of money in legal fees.

They even say in the article that they are "hoping the publicity and the threat of a lawsuit will force McDonald's to negotiate with them on the issue. The group announced the lawsuit in the letter to McDonald's 30 days before filing it with the hope that the company will agree to stop selling the toys before a suit is filed."
