A good bad movie is like popcorn for the soul!

« on: July 02, 2010, 07:41:44 AM »

I watched this one a couople of nights ago - it was pretty entertaining, I must admit!  A small town sheriff is watching a high school ball game when the town drunk comes onto the field carrying a rifle.  The sheriff tries to talk him down, but when the man raises the rifle he is forced to fire.  Then the coroner discovers the man has no alcohol in his system at all.  What set him off?  And why does everyone in the town begin descending into homicidal mania?  The film's early moments are best, but even after the "big reveal" about what is causing the town's population to go mad there are some tense moments.  The diner sequence near the end is very impressive.  Overall, I really liked this one.

It's a pretty good remake.

I wanted to see it in the theater but I never got around to it.  Maybe I'll pick up the DVD.

This was one of the better remakes. I remember watching it with friends and saying "This makes a great companion to the original". It didn't try to rehash just expand some ideas.

I loved he scene where they find the cause of the outbreak.  Great use of the idea that the main characters are caught between the infected and the military.

I thought it was meh...    Lookingup

The cool thing is that it's set in Iowa and throughout the entire film they're trying to get to Cedar Rapids.
I've lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa my entire life.   Smile  Thumbup

The image of C.R. at the end of this film is definitely NOT Cedar Rapids. (probably computer generated)

Trivia:
The newscaster that appears during the end credits is Bruce Aune.  I've been watching him on KCRG Channel 9 News since I was a boy.  He's still the anchor.  Watch him almost every night.

I really enjoyed the hell out of this film.  I've always felt that Romero's original was a bit of a misstep.  It just never really worked for me.  Seeing this grittier remake took the story and ran with it, was surprising.  My only complaint was that aside from a short conversation with one of the soldiers, we never really see the military's side of the story.  That was a big part of Romero's film, and it's missing here.  Otherwise, no real complaints.  Seriously enjoyed this one.

I enjoyed it. I have to admit, though, that I'm not exactly a fan of Romero's original. I know a lot of people liked it and I respect their opinions, but it just didn't work for me.

I may pick up the remake on DVD (after I've gotten more of the movies that have been on my list for a while, of course).

I'm with you.  I have nothing against the film.  It seemed not very well paced.
