This Is What It Sounds Like When The Internet Cries
So this week, while all the blogosphere was abuzz about George Michael's SEVENTH car crash, LeAnn Rimes' controversial canoodling pics with boyfriend Eddie Cibrian, Crystal Bowersox's new teeth, Liz Phair's credibility-killing new musical direction, and the Grammys' revised eligibility rules, the World Wide Web itself was under attack by Prince, aka The Artist Formerly Known As The Internet's Biggest Supporter. Yes, online readers, according to His Purple Majesty's new royal decree, the Internet is kaput. Over. Finished. You may as well turn off this website and go back to your abacus now.

"The Internet's completely over," Prince declared to England's Daily Mirror, sounding like he's ready to party not quite like it's 1999, but more like '79. "I don't see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else [digitally]. They won't pay me an advance for it, and then they get angry when they can't get it....All these computers and digital gadgets are no good. They just fill your head with numbers and that can't be good for you..."

Has anyone cared about Prince since the 80's?

Just curious.

Good point.  However, I find it interesting.  It seems the more I hear from him, the more I believe he is angry each individual isn't paying royalties for listening to a song on the radio.

Well if Prince says its no good, I beleive him.  So long friends.

Actually, I think Prince (although a great and highly talent musician) has gone looney in the past over things. I see his point about getting paid but the Internet is the new medium.  Sorry purple one, less people today uses CDs anymore.

Interestingly, his new album was actually given away free in a British newspaper yesterday rather than on sale.

Well, my ex-boyfriend for one Lookingup
It's a little odd that he's complaining about internet music NOW, I mean, we're 10 years removed from the Napster incident, for cryin' out loud.

Also, George Michael was in a car crash? I didn't hear about that at all.

I sort of respect Prince in a very weird sort of way.  I haven't listened to his music since the mid '80s when he switched to total dance/pop stuff, but he was really good before that.  I guess I'm more impressed by someone saying that the internet is over than by these celeb's who are constantly tweeting their latest bit of prattle.  And one time back in the early '80s we went to look at his house in Minneapolis, and it was a normal sized house - not a mansion at all.  That's kind of cool, I mean, what does a single person need 50 rooms for?  And one time I was watching a football game and he was in one of the luxury boxes.  They kept showing him on TV, standing motionless for a half hour at a time.  The commentators wondered if it was just a cardboard cutout.  But really, I've got more respect for someone who can stand there and think for a half hour than somebody who can't go one minute without getting on their cell phone.  Oh, he's pretty wacky, but in a kind of cool way.
