I AM THE BAD PHOTOSHOP EFFECT!

« on: July 15, 2010, 09:03:37 PM »

Well, the first glimpses of Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan are being released and as a Green Lantern fan, I thought I'd share it with you guys and gals and give some of my thoughts on it.

First off, everone seems to be complaining about the mask.  Saying it's too curved and looks like a quick photoshop job.  Some of that's true, but I don't mind it so much.

The one thing I'm not liking is the sort of muscle/living costume feel i get from it.  Like it's tacing a strange alien musclartur on the person's body.  In the comics, GL's uniform is created from the ring.  Maybe that's what I'm not liking.  It dosen't feel like a uniform for an itergalactic police force, as much as it does some strange more nature based hero.

Still, I like the glowing chest emblem, the ring, and how it seems the costume will glow with power.  I want to hold off on judgement, because really right now I'm fan boy picking.  I'll still see this movie on opening day-and yeees, I will be wearing one of my Green Lantern t-shirts.  Maybe the Kyle Rayner one just to see if I get any reactions from the Hal fan boys.

What do you think about it?

At least, that's what Gary Busey told me...

I can see what they're going for, but I think the mask looks bad.  I'll have to see it in motion to finally tell, but I will say I think the traditional costume looks better.  I am looking forward to the movie though - at least they've got a director (Martin Campbell) who is quite able to handle action scenes, special effects, and setting up franchise elements.

Here is the standard costume, via Alex Ross, for comparison.

I guess it could've looked worse but the fibrous appearance is kind of gross looking to me.

I can't really judge it from just the single image, although I will say that he looks more like Kyle than Hal.

That's exactly what I was thinking  Cheers

The costume isn't too bad but that mask looks like a Fruit Roll-Up.  Hope he doesn't get hungry  TeddyR
