I've personally seen better graphics on Xbox 360.

Really?  Such as?  I'm honestly curious, as I've never seen anything nearly as convincing in a video game as any of the Na'vi.

Here's a still from Avatar.  I'd like to see something organic and created with CG that was better.

My reaction too, I could even seem the pixels and jaggies on the clothes in some shots!

I think you're imagining things.  Both visible pixels and jagged polygons are such a trivial thing to avoid today it's baffling to me to think a $300 million heavy CG movie would have them.  Even The Last Starfighter pretty much avoids this.  If you can post a picture of this though, it'd be a fascinating case of a huge oversight in the special effects of the film.

Anyway...

One movie I couldn't really finish was Wings of Desire.  It was just so dull and boring I was barely staying awake and barely able to pay attention after a while.  I did technically see it all, because I was sitting there while it finished, but I don't think I really "finished" it.

I couldn't finish Frankenstein Island because Netflix sent me a scratched up version of the movie that frozen halfway through.  Of course considering I didn't see anything that had actually interested me up until that part, I didn't ask for a better version either.

That too me looks more convincing than a na'vi. Less annoying too.  Lookingup  TeddyR

Well, the shots in the dark are greatly helped by how..  Dark they are.  Jurassic Park still looks good, but look at the T-rex CG shots in the parts where it is daytime (you might notice there aren't many of them, probably for this reason) and there's a little "pop" from it not perfectly blending into the shot.  It's there in the night shots too, just better covered.  And of course, it's always obvious when they switch from animatronics (probably the best ones ever made) to CG and back.

I will say I find some of the CG effects in Jurassic Park to be better than some of the creature work in Avatar - particularly the "dog" things, which have great texture and lighting effects work on them, but some of their motion isn't as up to snuff.  But not the Na'vi, especially Neytiri, who's to date the most believable effects creation of her kind I've seen in any format.  I'll not comment on how annoying they may be though.  TeddyR

In any case, I meant video games.  I've never seen a video game with graphics nearly as convincing as Jurassic Park, either.  They don't normally even try, going for a quasi-cartoony look even in most "realistic" video games like Call of Duty and so forth.  For this reason, I don't think it's even a good comparison, but it was made so...

Also all the special effects in the world can't save you if you can't build a sense of tension, excitement and intresting characters. Call me stupid, but stoytelling is more important than visual artistry*.

Avatar is very middle of the road.

*They were big and blue. They also had a tail. Thats it. Thats all they could come up with ? *yawn*

AVATAR was waaaay to long. I feel asleep.
I was at my neighbors watching SHERLOCK HOLMES (2009). I walked out! Horrible revisioning on Conan Doyle's wonderful charecter. Hatred
The Beatles MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR (1967). They showed it at school in the auditorium when I was in high school. I walked out. Embarassing.
