Last saturday, there was a heavy metal festival right here in Montreal that ran from 12:45 pm all the way to 11:10 pm. I tell you, it was pure awesome on so many levels.

From 12:45 pm 'till about 3:17 pm, there were a bunch of opening bands that included: Skeletonwitch, 36 Crazyfists, High on Fire, Baptized in Blood and Melissa Auf Der Maur.
Out of all the openers, I personally found Skeletonwitch to be the best in terms of guitar work and brutality. The rest kinda sounded the same and Melissa Auf Der Maur sounded awful. Despite this, the best was soon to come.

Up next came the first of the main bands: Kataklysm. Following them was Fear Factory, who to my surprise performed excellently. Soon Anvil followed and they put on an exiciting and fun show (The guitarist "Lips" at one point played a seven minute guitar solo with a vibrator. Sounds crazy but it was cool nontheless).

Testament came and went with a bang, Rob Halford later went on and was amazing (with such freaky high pitched vocals) and Mastodon appeared after and delivered some high class metal.

The real standout for me was when Slayer came on next. I was literally pushed all the way into the front, thus getting able to see them near up-close. The best part came when they played "Angel of Death". Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman came to were I was and I got to see them play the main riff right before my eyes. That's something I'm never gonna forget.

The last two bands to perform were Alice Cooper and Megadeth. Alice Cooper was awesome, although the theatrics were nothing new. Megadeth on the other hand nearly blew me away. It was even more mind blowing when Dave Elleffson happened to be there as the band's bassist once again.

This was the best way to spend a saturday, and I freaking enjoyed every last minute of the festival, regardless of how each band sounded.

Does anyone else have any awesome concert experiences?

I'm happy to say I saw Slayer in 1986 right as Hell Awaits was coming out. Talk about vintage. Bonus, D.R.I. opened up. It was before they crossed over and they were still hardcore punk. It was an interesting crowd, hardcore punk and metal heads mixing it up.
